Cambridge Clinical Research Fellowships Scheme
Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust is proud to run the Cambridge Clinical Research Fellowships Programme in conjunction with the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre and The Evelyn Trust.
Fostering the future leaders of clinical research is critical in building research capacity both within CUH and nationally. The programme supports emerging clinical researchers to develop their skills, gain valuable research experience and generate pilot data for future external funding applications.
The 2027 Fellowship programme will be open for applications from 16th November 2026
Medical Fellowships
This programme awards fellowships to trainee doctors who are post-FY2 and at the entry point to the clinical academic training pathway. As a springboard, fellows are expected to gain research experience and generate pilot data to enhance applications to external funders.
Applications are welcomed across all areas of clinical research.
NMAHP Fellowships
NMAHP Fellowships are open to nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and healthcare scientists. Applications are welcomed across all areas of clinical research.
What the fellowships offer
Each fellowship funds one year of salary and a research consumables contribution, giving successful applicants protected time to build research experience and collect pilot data.

Cambridge Clinical Research Fellowships in Child Health
In addition to our standard fellowship programme, this year ACT, in collaboration with the University Department of Paediatrics, is pleased to invite applications for one-year clinical research fellowships in child health.
As Cambridge moves closer to establishing a dedicated Children’s Hospital and Research Institute, these fellowships will support talented clinicians to develop research relevant to children and help build capacity in child health research.
This fellowship opportunity will be open for applications from 2nd November 2026
Who can apply?
We welcome aspiring clinician scientists from any specialty—not only paediatrics—whose research interests are broadly relevant to children. Relevant fields may include medicine, surgery, radiology, haematology, laboratory specialties, psychiatry and obstetrics.
Applicants should demonstrate academic potential, such as excellent performance during training or successful completion of additional research or improvement projects.
What the fellowships offer
The fellowship provides protected time to gain research experience and generate pilot data. Fellows will be supported to strengthen future applications to external funders, with the longer-term aim of progressing to a three- or four-year research programme and PhD qualification.
